A perfectly palatable pizza!

Hello again lovely people! Hope you’ve all been well 🙂

This time, I bring you pizza! 😀 I’ve been trying for a while to find a recipe that makes a good dough….played around with a few of the quantities and came up with a pizza dough that might not be Dominos level, but still pretty good for homemade 😛

A Basic Pizza

Ingredients Required:

  • 2 packets (14g total) dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 360ml lukewarm water
  • 480g strong white bread flour (plus extra for kneading)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (I used both sea salt and table salt)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Crushed/dried herbs like rosemary or thyme.
  • Pizza toppings of your choice

Equipment Needed:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Smaller bowl
  • Spoon to mix dough together
  • Measuring jug to measure out water
  • Scales
  • pizza tray or an oven tray will do nicely!
  • Pizza cutter to cut into slices once done 😛
  • knife and chopping board etc. to prep any veg you might be adding
  • Cling film or damp cloth for the rising of the dough
  1. Let’s start off with putting together your yeast, water and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a bowl. Leave this mixture alone for about 7 minutes until you see that surface puff up, as seen below….

2. Meanwhile, in a larger bowl, place your flour, dried herbs final tablespoon of sugar and any other dry spices of your choice in the bowl. I added in a little pepper, freshly ground sea salt, dried thyme and a pinch of ginger!

Just play around with combinations and amounts with every batch you make until you create a dough that tastes the best for you 🙂

3. Once your yeast is ready, give it a gentle stir and add in a little salt (this is where I added my pinch of table salt in) and olive oil. Give it a good stir and mix it all into your dry mixture to form a sticky dough.

4. Knead your dough on a well floured surface for about 5 minutes.

5. Add a layer of oil to your bowl, roll the dough in the oil and cover with either cling film, or a warm damp cloth if possible, and leave in a warm place to rise for about an hour.

6. Preheat the oven in enough time (to about 230°C/450°F) before your dough is done… but it really depends how long your oven takes to preheat!

7. Once it’s doubled in size, knead your dough with plenty of flour on the surface for another minute or two and then split the dough into 2-4 pieces, depending on how large you want your pizza’s to be. I split mine to make two larger pizzas.

8. Gently stretch the dough into the desired shape and size you want. If you make any holes, you can just pinch the dough together again to close 🙂

9. Time to top your pizza! 😀 I added on a homemade pizza sauce* with tandoori chicken strips**, red pepper, green chilli and of course, cheese (I went with cheddar and mozzarella)

*To make the pizza sauce, just cook up some canned tomatoes (I used chopped tomatoes but for a easier spread sieved may be better) for about 30 minutes on a gentle simmer, with some fresh herbs such as basil and thyme, with some dried or fresh oregano, a tablespoon of brown sugar, a pinch of salt and pepper, a dash of lemon juice and anything else you desire trying out! Make magic happen in that pot pf tomatoes! 😀

**For the chicken strips, once you’ve cut up your single chicken breast into strips, season with some salt, pepper, and tandoori mix (and maybe a sprinkle of dried basil) and stir-fry with enough oil, until fully cooked and just plain lovely!

10. Bake your pizza in the oven for a couple of minutes until all your cheese is melted and your crust is lovely and golden brown. If you want to go the extra mile with your pizza crust, try brushing some butter on the outer crust halfway through cooking and pop it back into the oven to finish – makes those crusts extra yummy!

6. Once baked and sliced, enjoy! 😀 I know I certainly did 😛

Pizza – a perfect weekend treat! Give it a try, especially if you’ve never made it from scratch before! 😛 Recipe inspired by my latest food youtube watch: Preppy Kitchen! 🙂
